Programs and Activities for Children

In addition to joining the summer reading program and earning prizes for reading, we also invite you to join us for a summer full of fun activities and entertainment. All programs are free of charge, and most do not require registration. See the schedule and details below.

Summer Reading Finale: Fitness Fun

Run, jump, tumble, and play to celebrate reading!

  • Saturday, July 20
  • 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  • Ohio Sports Academy, 270 Hiawatha Trail in Springboro
  • Registration is not required, but filling out the online waiver form prior to the event is highly encouraged. Click here to access the online form.
  • This program is best suited for children ages 3-12.

Complete a building-wide obstacle course at Ohio Sports Academy! This is a free event hosted by the library at OSA. Drop in between 5:30 and 7 p.m. to run, jump, tumble, and play on the gym equipment. A path through the different activities is provided, but children can complete the course and then get in line to do it all again and repeat the course as long as time allows.

Children should wear soft clothing without zippers or buttons, and they will need to remove their shoes to participate. Grownups should stay with their children throughout the event.

Caregivers can fill out an online waiver prior to the event. Click here to access the online form.

Kindergarten Kickstart

Kindergarteners and their grownups can practice school skills.

  • Saturdays, July 27, August 3, and August 10
  • 2 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Franklin Library
  • Registration is required. Call (937) 746-2665 to sign up.
  • This program is only for children starting kindergarten in the 2024-25 school year.

We invite children beginning kindergarten this year and their grownups to practice skills that will help prepare them for the first day of school and beyond. This three-week program features new activities each week, so we encourage you to sign up for all three sessions. With fun, stress-free activities, we'll focus on lessons like letters, numbers, and colors, but also on school skills like listening, perseverance, and trying new things. Call the library to sign up for this fun, educational program.

StoryWalk® and Crafts at the Franklin Farmers Market

Follow the path to read a story and complete a fun craft.

  • Saturday, August 10
  • 10 a.m. to noon
  • Franklin Farmers Market, 1 Benjamin Franklin Way in Franklin
  • Registration is not required.
  • All ages are welcome, but this program will best be enjoyed by children ages 3-8.

Stop by the Franklin Farmers Market for a StoryWalk®. A picture book will be displayed along a short path in the grass at the farmers market so children and their grownups can walk from page to page and enjoy the story. Then a fun craft will be provided that you can complete at the farmers market or take home with you.

The StoryWalk® project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
