Special Services for Teachers

TEACHER COLLECTIONS

Let a library staff member know what you need and when you need it, and we'll put together a collection for your classroom. Whether it's a unit on bugs for your preschoolers or a study of great american classics for your high school seniors, we can get you what you need. You may also pick your own due date to coincide with your schedule. (Please give us at least a week's notice to ensure you will get the needed materials.)

Download a printer-friendly TEACHER COLLECTION AND ASSIGNMENT ALERT form that can be dropped off at your local branch or faxed.

CLASSROOM BOOK SETS

Class sets are made available on a first come, first serve basis. Before you begin your unit or topic, check out the entire class set (7 - 15 books) on your Library card. Teachers are permitted to keep the sets for four weeks, one week longer than the normal loan period. Currently, the library has class sets of the following books:

  • Be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days by Stephen Manes
  • Because of Winn-Dixie
  • Bridge to Terabithia
  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
  • Danger Along the Ohio by Patricia Willis
  • Corner of the Universe
  • Fighting Ground
  • Freak the Mighty
  • Homeless Bird
  • Hoot
  • The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
  • The Name of This Book Is Secret
  • Stormbreaker
  • The Story of Doctor Dolittle
  • White Fang
  • Zachary Beaver Comes to Town

We are constantly adding to this list, so please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

CLASSROOM VISITS

The children's librarian is happy to visit school classrooms for whatever you need. She can teach your students how the library works, show them how to access library databases from home, or just read a story.

REFERENCE CARTS

Is your whole class doing reports on medieval times or another big project like it? Let us know and we can create a reference cart for your students to use in the library. This ensures that the library can help all your students do the best research possible. (And prevents the first few students from checking out all the available books on the subject!)
